Turtle Lookout hike in Yeppoon

I went for an amazing hike in Capricorn National Park. The view from Turtle lookout was incredible, you were up high enough to see the beautiful coastline yet if you watched the ocean shore you might see turtles. 

On our way up the trail I noticed what I thought was a stick but it had spots on it.  A friend was behind me and she was the one who said loudly "that's a snake". And after looking again briefly I realized she was right. We found out later it was a Reticulated Python. I actually got a photo, only one though as I didn't hang around to see if it moved. 

More Uluru

Uluru

I stayed in Uluru Kata Juta national park four days. It is an amazing sight with the colours of the Red Rock changing as the sun sets and rises.   The highlight was the incredible star sky.   At the Sounds of Silence dinner we had an opportunity to see the vista of stars unlike anything I've ever witnessed. So many constellations, my favourite was the Milky Way.  Being near Ayers Rock was an experience that left you feeling like just a speck in the grand scheme of life.

Last School Holidays

Term 3 ended sept 27 and I was on the Red Eye special to Brisbane that night. After a long sleepless flight we landed in Brisbane Saturday morning. Deb had come up from Pemberton Friday night and we headed to the East Coast together.  We decided to take a cab to the ferry terminal as we both were operating on very little sleep. Deb had been on exchange five years earlier in a small town called Yeppoon about 30 minutes north of Rockhampton.  Teaching friends had invited us to join them camping on Stradbrooke island. After the Kimberley camping experience I was excited to know there would not be a swag to roll up on this holiday. Actually camping here was very layback. My only fear was keeping my eyes peeled for Huntsman spiders and snakes. (One of the boys had woken up to one beside his head that morning YIKES!). Folks had the giant tents that you can stand up in and luxury items like power for a toaster and kettle. Best part was the beach which was a 5 minute walk from our campsite. We saw whales breaching and frolicking in the ocean. Granted it was in the distance and to get best view you needed binoculars. We did encounter an active koala in a tree on a walk.  I stayed for two nights here on beautiful Stradbrooke island and then headed to Brisbane. Everyone's hospitality and generosity was wonderful. Next day I headed off the island and back to Brisie to do some exploring. The first day I spent cruising down the Brisbane River to Lone Pines Koala sanctuary. I love KOALAS, can't get enough of them. My favourite spots were the Kindergarten enclosure and the Retirement home. My hotel was a block away from fabulous shopping so I struggled to shop til I dropped, which wasn't very hard to do!
